~Robin Fisher Rofer

Ever wondered What’s next?

Maybe you are in a career rut and not sure how to break out, or recent changes in the economy have affected you. Possibly  you’ve been facing some serious life challenges and you are looking for a way to shake things up. Or, maybe even though there is nothing really wrong with your life, you are starting to feel a shift, a restlessness and a little stir-crazy with certain aspects. Perhaps you are feeling the itch to fill your life with a brand-new passion.

There is a little voice nagging you to make some changes but you are not exactly sure what that would look like for you or how to go about it? Little things nag at you for a reason, so give them a voice and a place in your life.

Change is essential, yet we fear it even though it can be invigorating and inspiring. Transformation doesn’t come easily and whether we want to or need to change, it is a constant in our lives that brings both opportunities and obstacles. Journey toward change. Create it. Think in a new way to proactively initiate change in your life as part of a never-ending process that creates and reveals the best version of you.

Reinvention isn’t about changing everything. It’s an evolution that makes you feel like a new person and yet more like yourself than ever. It’s about building on all that you have accomplished and experiences in life and focusing that with the intention to chart your own unique journey toward success and satisfaction. It’s a way of thinking about new ways your skills can be adapted to the changing world of work that will ultimately provide more satisfying life and career choices.

Reinvention is not a redo because you didn’t do something right for the first time, it’s about how you can make your life more awesome than it is now by using your own uniqueness, getting out of your comfort zone, living a more authentic life and maybe even trying something you’ve wanted to do for years.

Start imagining your next steps. Get excited about your future full of possibility. You can reinvent any piece of your life. Whether it’s as big as a new career focus, starting a business or small yet significant enhancements in other areas of your life, reinvention is an exciting new beginning.

The journey to change involves several steps – an evolution. Here’s how to get ready to take the leap.

Reflect

Conventional wisdom tells us that knowing what we want make the process easier. Clearing your mind gives you energy and allows you to focus on the path ahead. Take time to think about the big things in your life and consciously reflect on what really matters to you. It takes creativity, courage and a sense of direction to start. Be OK with yourself while you are in the thinking stage, and don’t rush into the doing stage. Get re-connected to who you really are. Punctuate your thoughts with more questions marks than periods. Take the time to acknowledge yourself and your accomplishments no matter how big or small.

Renew

Begin the journey to be the person you truly want to be. Make commitments to yourself that you will keep. No empty promises. Dream big. Have a vision and start basing your decisions on things that will make you happier and move you toward your destination. Feel your passion and get clear on what makes you want to get out of bed in the morning. Reclaim your personal power and acknowledge what is right with your life and release what isn’t.

Relax

Change always takes much longer than you expect. It’s alright not to know the answers. They will come to you when you least expect it. Give yourself permission to explore and embrace what’s next. Be gentle with yourself. Don’t be afraid to fail and don’t let yourself get caught up in perfection paralysis. Reinvention never stops. Transformation is a choice we make moment by moment, each and every day. Be true to you.

Explore. Change. Grow.

It’s up to you to put new life in the life you’ve been living. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.

What change will you create in your world?

  1. “Ever wondered What’s Next?” – that’s exactly where I am at. I am struggling with how to put it into action. I am going to take the “Reflect, Renew and Relax” advice to heart and see where this goes. Patience and lack of a clear direction on where I am going are my biggest challenges in the days, months and probably years ahead.
